Training Class Descriptions

TRACK I

Part 75 Overview - Level: Beginner - Intermediate

This 2-day class is directed towards environmental staff responsible for complying with 40CFR75 regulations. An overview will be provided on the general provisions required by the rule. This will include monitoring methods, data handling, quality assurance testing, diagnostic/recertification events, annual analysis, and reporting/recordkeeping requirements. This is a comprehensive class that will cover all monitoring strategies and approaches (CEMS, Appendix and LME). We will also touch briefly on the ECMPS re-engineering project but there will be a separate, more detailed talk on that subject later in the week. General data assessment techniques will be discussed along with our 10-step program for success.    

Part 60 Overview - Level: Beginner 

This half-day class is geared towards environmental support staff responsible for complying with New Source Performance Standards (NSPS).  This class will provide an overview of the general provisions including the monitoring, data validation, ongoing quality assurance and reporting requirements. We will perform a deep dive into Part 60 Appendix F procedures that are applicable to CEMS, COMS, Mercury and PM.  

Preparing for an Audit - Intermediate 

This session will focus on key steps and lessons to keep your facility prepared for a CEMS program audit. The class will cover recent developments in EPA’s Part 75 desk audit program. While Part 75 may not be applicable to your facility, the audit tools and resources are valuable to prepare for any CEMS program audit.  

ECMPS Re-engineering

This class will cover the current status of EPA’s ECMPS 2.0 re-engineering effort. The presentation will discuss the MATS Rule electronic reporting requirements. We will also provide an update on the development of CEMLink 6 in preparation for the ECMPS 2.0 formal launch. As time allows, we will also provide a brief demonstration of the ECMPS 2.0 web-based reporting platform.  

TRACK II

CEMLink6 for Part 63 Subpart EEE - Level: Intermediate Advanced 

This half-day class covers CEMLink6 implementation of 40CFR63 Subpart EEE, including fuel data entry and interlocks.  We will go into details on the architecture and configuration to satisfy the requirements set forth in Subpart EEE.  We will demonstrate the process of adding new fuel data samples and placing them in service.  We will also show how to change limits for warning, cutoff, and exceedance alarms and initiate interlock tests.  And finally, we will review the various components of the DAS needed for compliance such as they pertain to quality assurance and reporting for Subpart EEE units.

C6 Configuration & PLC 101 - Level: Advanced 

This half-day class will focus on the Configuration UI and PLCs.  The class will go in depth into the more complex areas of the configuration. You will learn about creating and configuring averages and calculations, including the Average Detail and Average Option settings.  We will be discussing how to configure Calibrations.  Other topic areas will include PLC Device Configuration, PLC Channels with Device Settings, DAS Calculations, Alarms and side-effects of certain configuration changes.  The class will then cover the basic usage of Rockwell Automation’s Studio 5000 Logix Designer with VIM’s PLCLink software package. A review of the PLCLink software design will be presented with an emphasis on the features utilized by technicians to support environmental compliance.

Advanced System Troubleshooting - Level: Intermediate Advanced  

In this session, we will navigate through the multi-tiered architecture of CEMLink6. We will also explore Microsoft components that are prerequisites to the system. The better you understand the architecture and how all the parts work together the more effective you will be at troubleshooting problems when they arise. With a knowledge of the architecture in hand, we will turn our attention to “real-world” scenarios that could arise on a CEMLink6 system and attempt to resolve them. We will open our troubleshooting toolbox and explore built in tools as well as third party tools that help us solve our “real-world” exercises.

Power BI - Level: Advanced 

CEMLink 6 does an amazing job with managing, reporting, and allowing you to visualize your compliance data. But what about users looking for more innovative business intelligence capabilities (beyond what is available in the product) or those looking to share and collaborate at a corporate level? This session will introduce you to Power BI - Microsoft’s premier business intelligence tool which is sweeping the industry by storm. Here, we will set the stage and demonstrate how to begin using Power BI effectively within your organization in order to bring your compliance data to life. There will be a hands-on lab component that will help each attendee get started and familiar with both the Power BI Desktop application as well as the Power BI Service. Bring your laptop, grab a cup of coffee, and get ready to learn!  

Excel Add-in - Level: Intermediate Advanced

The CEMLink6 Excel add-in provides an unprecedented level of integration between CEMLink6 and Microsoft Excel. It satisfies a growing need for users who want to go further and do more with their compliance data outside the DAS. In this demo-focused session, we will introduce the CEMLink6 Excel add-in and cover how to download, install, and configure it. We will then explore some of the rich capabilities available in the add-in and demonstrate how it can be used to quickly and efficiently query data from the DAS server and bring it into Excel for analysis and custom reporting.

Data Viewer Expression Builder - Level: Intermediate Advanced

This class will focus on the expression builder feature within the Data Viewer UI.  Expression columns are the latest enhancement to the Data Viewer in CEMLink6. Expression columns provide users with endless possibilities to shape, analyze, and explore data through Excel-like formulas configured at run time. With a demo focused delivery, this session covers everything you need to know to get started using expression columns. We will cover the expression editor in detail including all the built-in functions, operators, and constants. We will also review the expression syntax and discuss common pitfalls. Finally, we will work through creating several real-world example expressions that you can use to immediately get more insight on your data. Attendees will be provided with an exclusive “cheat sheet” as a takeaway.

Compliance Calendar - Level: Intermediate Advanced

The Compliance Calendar in CEMLink 6 provides a set of industry-leading features and tools to help you manage and track QA testing deadlines. While previously exclusive to Part 75 sources, Compliance Calendar now allows users to track and monitor Part 60 ongoing QA tests in addition to inspection and site-specific operating limits (SSOL) required by many MACT regulations. This session will provide users with a general overview of the Compliance Calendar feature and focus on its configurability and flexibility allowing it to cover a wide range of requirements and scenarios.

CEMLink6 for Part 63 Subpart LLL - Level: Intermediate Advanced

This half-day class is geared towards environmental support staff responsible for complying with PC MACT requirements. This class will cover in detail the monitoring, ongoing quality assurance and reporting requirements associated with the rule. Next, we’ll discuss data review techniques and how to identify outliers and issues. We’ll conclude with our 10-step program for success.  

TRACK III

Overview Dashboards - Level: Intermediate 

This class will focus on the configuration of dashboards within the Overview UI.  Dashboards are quite possibly the most versatile feature available in CEMLink6. With minimal effort, you can bring the DAS to life using real-time visualizations and interactions made available through our extensive library of widgets. In this session, we will start with learning the basics of building a dashboard using the designer. We will cover the designer in detail and explore the many features and functions that allow you to rapidly build professional looking screens. Finally, we will look at some completed examples of real-world screens and demonstrate all the elements functioning together.

Scheduler - Level: Intermediate 

This class will provide an overview on how the Scheduler allows the user to automate repetitive CEMLink and database tasks, report and trend generation and data exportation.  This class will then cover how these reports and exports can be saved to specific file or network locations, printed, or sent to specific persons or groups via e-mail.

Report Building - Level: Beginner

This class will cover all aspects of report building and configuration.  We’ll begin by covering all the types of reports in the system and how they are organized.  We’ll then discuss report groups that allow the user to auto-generate multiple reports at the same time.  We’ll then demonstrate the configuration of commonly used reports and discuss what options are available.   

Introduction to Alarming - Level: Beginner Intermediate  

This class will focus on the Alarms and Events UI as well as alarm configuration within the Configuration UI.  You will learn how to manage alarm categories and various types of alarms and how to send emails for each alarm condition.  Topic areas will also include association of reason and action codes, and auto-coding of reason codes to alarm conditions as they become active.  

Sorbent Trap 101 - Level: Intermediate 

This class will demonstrate the various mercury sorbent trap interfaces available in CEMLink6.  It will cover real time data collection, post process “batch” file imports and various performance specification 12B checks done on the DAS.  We’ll also discuss common problems that influence stack flow to sample flow rate ratio (SFSR) failures the how to avoid them.  

Logbook - Level: Intermediate 

This class will focus on some of the advanced features of the Logbook.  One such feature is logbook templates that allow for standardized logbook entries for multiple users of the system.  We’ll construct from scratch a few templates such as daily CEM check sheet, monthly inspections, and quarterly audit forms.  We’ll also demonstrate how to configure default Titles and Categories that provide more structure to the entries and allow for easy search capability.  Finally, we’ll cover how the logbook interface integrates with other feature areas including the Data Editor and Configuration UI changes.  

Calibration Utilities - Level: Beginner Intermediate  

This half-day class is geared towards technicians and environmental engineers responsible for managing and performing daily calibration drift checks.  We will discuss all aspects of the Cylinder Management, Calibration Control and Calibration Data Viewer user interfaces.    

Data Viewer / Trending - Level: Beginner Intermediate  

This class is geared towards data mining and review.  We’ll start in the Data Viewer where you will learn to investigate data flags, understand what makes data valid or invalid. Create layouts to make it easier to assess commonly viewed data as well as export data.  We’ll then shift over to the Trend UI where we’ll discover techniques to setup several different types of trends using our trending dashboard application.  

Advanced Tips and Tricks - Level: Intermediate

Maybe you’re an intermediate user excited about attending CEMLink 6 training, but you’re unsure about which session to attend. Instead of focusing on a specific feature, come check out our Advanced Tips and Tricks session! Here we will cover a good cross-section of features within the product. We will focus on demonstrating tips, tricks, and other lesser known, but powerful features designed to increase your productivity and efficiency as a user. This session will leave you well-rounded and help you get the most out of the CEMLink 6 application.

Basic System Troubleshooting - Level: Beginner Intermediate  

In this session, we will review the architecture of CEMLink, everything from reading raw data from the PLC to writing compliance data back to the PLC. In addition, we will investigate common issues such as can’t access CEMLink, PLC Communication issues, calculations not running, and invalid averages. We’ll review some good practices when troubleshooting these and many more issues.    

Class Information

Schedule, Format & Material 

All training will take place at the Hilton DFW Lakes.  The specific location of each track will be posted once we get closer to the event, based on each track’s expected class size. Attendees registered for training can attend any session they’d like over the course of a day. The duration of each session will last 90 minutes, which includes a brief Q&A at the end.  Classes that are scheduled for more than one session will break at a time selected by the instructor (not necessarily coinciding with other session breaks except for lunch).   

Class material (handouts and/or slides) will be distributed via E-mail and file share utility no later than October 30th.

There will be no hardcopy material distributed, so please bring your material with you.

Which Class Should I Attend?

One of the biggest challenges when attending a training class is determining which class fits best. There are no hard and fast rules but to get the most out of your time, you want to select classes that will serve you best.  Please consult the class syllabus below to identify the best class for you.  

Do I need my Laptop?

Several classes will be greatly enhanced by using your laptop to connect to your CEMLink6 system. High speed internet access will be provided in each classroom, but you are responsible for your own laptop.  

Cost

The deadline to register for classes is November 4th.  The cost for training is a fixed price of $2,250 for all 3 days regardless of the number of sessions or tracks attended. Attendees are encouraged to find classes that fit their needs across any of the three tracks available.

Any training cancellations received on or before 10/14/24 will be assessed a $250 fee.  The remainder of the training charge will be refunded.  Cancellations received after 10/14/24 will be forfeited or applied toward a future class (minus $250 fee).

Hotel registration will need to be arranged by each individual and is not included in the registration fee.  We have negotiated a nightly rate of $199/night to be held until October 14th, or until our block of rooms fills up, whichever occurs first.
